Scaling AI-Centric Product Engineering Challenge: Rapid acceleration in AI product demand began exposing deep-rooted limitations within the organisation's existing engineering practices and delivery

Scaling AI-Centric Product Engineering

Challenge:

Rapid acceleration in AI product demand began exposing deep-rooted limitations within the organisation's existing engineering practices and delivery frameworks. Tightly coupled monolithic architectures created significant development friction, with release cycles constrained by inter-component dependencies, lengthy regression cycles, and an inability to independently deploy or scale discrete functional modules. Fragmented, inconsistently managed data pipelines introduced upstream data quality risks and downstream reliability issues, eroding confidence in the datasets powering AI-driven product features.

The absence of standardised, repeatable cloud environment provisioning further compounded these challenges in infrastructure inconsistencies across development, staging, and production environments led to configuration drift, unpredictable deployment behaviour, and prolonged time-to-release. Compounding this, the lack of a robust, production-grade AI deployment framework in encompassing model versioning, feature store integration, inference serving infrastructure, and model performance monitoring made it operationally difficult to reliably scale intelligent features across the organisation's growing product portfolio, resulting in ad-hoc, high-effort deployments that were neither repeatable nor auditable.

Solution:

We delivered a comprehensive, end-to-end transformation spanning product engineering, data orchestration, cloud infrastructure modernisation, and AI implementation, fundamentally re-platforming the organisation's technology foundation to support scalable, intelligent product delivery.

Legacy monolithic systems were systematically decomposed and transitioned into modular, loosely coupled microservices-based architectures, underpinned by cloud-native infrastructure provisioned through infrastructure-as-code principles. This enabled independent service deployment, granular scalability, and significantly reduced blast radius during incidents, accelerating release velocity whilst improving overall system resilience.

A robust, real-time data orchestration layer was established to serve as the connective tissue across the platform, enabling low-latency data ingestion, transformation, and serving pipelines that directly powered intelligent, data-intensive product features with consistent and reliable upstream data.

End-to-end MLOps pipelines were designed, built, and operationalised to automate the full model lifecycle, encompassing continuous training, validation, versioning, staged deployment, A/B testing frameworks, and real-time model performance monitoring, ensuring AI models remained accurate, auditable, and production-ready at scale.

AI capabilities were natively embedded into the organisation's product layer, enabling context-aware, adaptive user experiences driven by real-time inference and shifting the product from static, rule-based interactions to dynamic, intelligence-led engagement models that continuously improved with user behaviour and feedback signals.

Impact:

• 2x acceleration in product release cycles

• Seamless integration of AI across product lines

• Improved scalability and performance

• Faster innovation and time-to-market
